Citing an online advertisement in MLA style

If the advertisement has a title, put it inside quotation marks. If the advertisement has no title, provide a generic description of it in sentence case and do not put it inside quotation marks. If the advertisement has a date, put it before the URL. If there is no date, list the date you accessed it after the URL.

Citing an online advertisement in APA style

If the advertisement has a date, put it in parentheses after the company’s name. If there is no date, insert “n.d.” and list the date you accessed it before the URL.

Citing an online advertisement in Chicago style, notes-bibliography

Advertisements are typically included in the note and omitted from the bibliography. If the advertisement has a date, put it before the URL. If there is no date, insert the date you accessed it instead, preceded by “accessed.” If the website’s name is the name of a print publication, italicize it or enclose it in quotation marks as you would the print source.

Note

  1. Company Name, “Title of Advertisement,” advertisement, Website Name, accessed Month Day, Year, URL.

  2. ICICI Lombard GIC, “Road Side Assistance Starting at Rs 199!,” advertisement,

In this case, also insert the date you accessed the advertisement before the URL, preceded by “Accessed.” If the website’s name is the name of a print publication, italicize it or enclose it in quotation marks as you would the print source.
